Evidence Tier: Preclinical — LL-37 is the only human cathelicidin antimicrobial peptide. A 37-amino acid peptide with broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity and immunomodulatory properties.
Overview
LL-37 is a 37-amino acid peptide derived from the C-terminus of hCAP-18 (human cationic antimicrobial protein 18). It is the sole member of the cathelicidin family in humans and plays a critical role in innate immune defense against bacterial, viral, and fungal pathogens.
Research Applications
- Broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria
- Wound healing promotion through keratinocyte migration and angiogenesis
- Immune system modulation and chemokine production
- Biofilm disruption capabilities
