AOD-9604 (Anti-Obesity Drug Fragment 176-191)

Evidence Tier: Phase 1-2 — AOD-9604 is a modified fragment of human growth hormone (amino acids 176-191) that retains fat-metabolizing properties without the growth-promoting effects of full GH.

Overview

AOD-9604 was developed by Metabolic Pharmaceuticals Ltd. at Monash University, Australia. It is a modified version of the hGH fragment 176-191 with a tyrosine substitution that improves stability. Clinical development through Phase 2 did not demonstrate sufficient efficacy for FDA approval.

Regulatory Note

AOD-9604 received GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) status from the FDA in 2014 as a food ingredient, but this does not constitute approval as a therapeutic agent.
